State of Mexico.— On Wednesday, November 20, a serious multi-vehicle collision took place along the Mexico–Querétaro Highway, specifically at kilometer 059+000 in the municipality of Huehuetoca, located in the State of Mexico. The accident involved a heavy trailer truck that reportedly was unable to brake in time, leading to a chain-reaction crash with several vehicles traveling in the same direction. Witnesses at the scene indicated that traffic was moderately heavy at the time, which may have contributed to the severity of the incident.
According to preliminary reports, the trailer lost control after failing to reduce speed, crashing into multiple cars ahead of it. The force of the impact caused significant damage to several vehicles and ultimately left the trailer positioned sideways across the roadway. As a result, all three north-to-south lanes were completely blocked, bringing traffic to a standstill and forcing authorities to partially close that section of the highway.
Emergency services, including paramedics, firefighters, and highway patrol units, quickly arrived at the scene to assist those involved, assess injuries, and begin clearing the wreckage. While the exact number of injured individuals has not been officially confirmed, several people were reportedly treated on-site, and some may have been transported to nearby hospitals for further medical attention.
The accident caused major traffic disruptions, with long lines of vehicles forming as drivers were either redirected or forced to wait while cleanup operations were underway. Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area if possible and to seek alternative routes to prevent further congestion.
As for the causes of the accident, initial assessments suggest that the trailer’s inability to stop in time could have been due to excessive speed, mechanical failure, or delayed driver reaction. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and whether any additional factors, such as road conditions or driver fatigue, may have played a role.
Officials continue working to fully reopen the highway and restore normal traffic flow, while also reminding drivers to exercise caution, maintain safe distances, and adhere to speed limits—especially on busy and high-speed routes like the Mexico–Querétaro Highway.
